FREEFLEX SHAFT FAQs Q. HOW DO I KNOW WHICH FF SHAFT TO CHOOSE?A. The shafts can be chosen by your average swing speed, and your feel preference during the swing. The FreeFlex FF38 and FF45 shaft are recommended for swing speeds between 80~100mph and 95~110mph, respectively, and are soft feeling in flex though both are capable of handling higher speeds than specified. Choose FF38 if you are a swinger-type golfer with a smooth tempo and transition, and prefer a smooth feeling in the swing and at impact. It will waggle significantly like a senior-flex but stiffen like an R-flex at impact. Choose FF45 if you are a hitter-type OR swinger-type golfer, but with a quicker tempo and transition with a preference for a firmer overall feeling in the swing and at impact. It will waggle like an R-flex but stiffen like SR-flex at impact. Like any shaft pushed to its limits, the both models will offer high club speed and distance, but at a risk of less accuracy if struck off-center (which is more likely the faster a club is swung). Q. WHAT IS THE IDEAL DRIVER LENGTH AND SWING WEIGHTS WITH FF and MF SHAFTS?A. Special Joy shafts are not a plug and play shaft, so try them at various swing weights and driver lengths to find your optimal performance. As each golfer and driver heads are different, there is no 'correct' driver length that will fit everyone. When fitting the shaft to the club head, we recommend NOT cutting the shaft right away to your usual length. Rather, we recommend that the butt end be trimmed in small 1/4" increments, so that you can try the driver out at various driver build lengths for the best feel and performance numbers. We have seen it perform for golfers using it at 44"~46" build lengths. Uncut shaft length is 46", so with the head attached can be as long as 48". Q. WHAT SWING WEIGHT SHOULD MY DRIVER BE WITH FF SHAFTS?The recommended swing weight can be between C8~D2 (38-series) and D0~D3 (45-series), but this is not set in stone. In fact, the faster your swing speed, the lighter the swing weight can be to stabilize the head at impact. For example, the FF38 at D2 may be great for a golfer swinging at 90mph, but not so great for golfers at 110mph or higher. Especially for FreeFlex shafts which are quite light and flexible, a heavy clubhead or swingweight may cause the head to wobble during the swing, leading to inconsistency and higher spin numbers. In addition, when the swingweight is too high (heavy), the clubhead may tend to release early resulting in a pull hook. Oppositely, if the clubface doesn't seem to catch up to square at impact resulting in push slice, the swingweight may be too light. Increase in spin numbers may also be apparent with a heavier swingweight. Thus, faster swingers may wish to try a lower swingweight of D0 or even lower for even faster swings. Again, try trimming the shaft from the butt end in increments and test it to find you optimal swing weight and driver length. The butt ends of our shafts are specially coated so that the grip can be slipped on with just the solvent or an air gun. In this manner, the grip can be easily applied and removed during the trial process to find your ideal swing weight. When the optimum length and swing weight has been determined for your particular swing, then grip tape can be used to affix the grip permanently. Q CAN THE SHAFTS BE TIPPED?A. The driver shaft tips are tapered to fit most all heads from 0.325~0.335" and tipping can be done to better fit certain adapters and drivers with fixed (short) hosels. Specifically, FF shafts can be tipped up to one-inch without affecting performance, as the Oblique Order (special weave technology) begins at about 1.5~2 inches from the uncut tip. In addition, FF shafts can also be extended from the butt end (1~2") without much noticeable performance changes, as long as the overall swing weight is within the recommended range. NOTE: If your shaft has broken off just at the tip of the adapter, try to tip it and re-use the shaft as a 3- or a 5-wood shat. It may surprise you to see how well it still works! Q. ARE YOUR SHAFTS PURED? HOW SHOULD THE SPINE BE ORIENTED?A. Every shaft has its spine indicated by a clear logo on the shaft. The spine indicator is where the shaft is the strongest at and should be inserted into the club head with the indicator facing up at address. Another useful tip about the spine indicator is that by turning the shaft counter-clockwise to have the indicator pointing slightly to 10 or 11 o'clock position may help to lessen hooks and draws. Similarly, setting it at 1 or 2 o'clock at address may help a slice. KEEP IN MIND, adjustable hosels will affect it just as any other shaft when adjusted to new lofts or angles. The indicator simply lets you know where it was pured, and FF shafts have the tighest tolerances for the exact spine of our shafts. Q. THE SHAFT SEEMS TO ADD SPEED BUT SPIN RATE HAS GONE UP. WHAT CAN I DO?A. The shafts react to the swing speeds of the golfer, so a D2 swing weight that works well for a 90mph swing may not show similar performance for a faster 110mph swing. In particular, the symptom may be increased spin rate as the swingweight may be too heavy for that golfer and is releasing the club early or too late. In such case, try getting the swingweight down lower for the head to square up for the faster clubhead speed (light = faster). For 110mph and higher speeds, the swing weight can be between D0 and D1 and perhaps even lower. Q. WHAT IS THE COST AND HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECEIVE THE SHAFT?A. The retail price of a FreeFlex driver shaft is US$650, and international shipping fee if $80. Adapters are available for six brands at $20 each (Callaway, TM, PING, Titleist, Cobra, PXG: specify model head). Once PayPal or bank wire transfer payment is confirmed by SJ Golf Lab, the shaft(s) can be shipped out within 3-5 business days. International shipping to individuals is done through Fedex priority and can take 5~10 business days. Tracking information can be provided. Note that shipping fee does not cover any duties and taxes levied by the goverment outside of Korea and are the responsibilities of the purchasing party. For countries with FTA agreement with Korea, a certificate of origin (CTO) can be provided. METAFLEX SHAFT FAQsQ. HOW ARE METAFLEX SHAFTS DIFFERENT FROM FREEFLEX SHAFTS?A. MetaFlex shafts are for faster swing speed players between 105~ 130mph who prefer a firm, stiff feeling throughout the swing and impact. By reinforcing specific areas of the shaft through our new CBT technology, we have firmed the shaft in feel without affecting the actual CPM and torque to maintain superior distance and accuracy. It is a new cutting-edge technology that we believe will change the way a shaft is manufactured. Q. HOW DO I CHOOSE THE METAFLEX SHAFTS?A. MetaFlex shafts can be chosen based on speed recommendation and are are offered in three driver shaft models (5H, 6H, 6.5M) and the MeteFlex ix90 shafts for irons, hybrids, and utility clubs. We recommend MetaFlex shafts for golfers with faster swing speeds, aggressive swing tempo and transition, and generally hitter-style swings. GENERAL FAQsQ. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE SHAFT BREAKS? IS IT UNDER WARRANTY?A. Our shafts are warrantied for one-year from date of purchase against damages arising from normal course of use/play. Each shaft has a unique numbered sticker on the shaft which can be authenticated by a specialized App (Hidden Tag). The number should also be written down separately for reference to future warranty claims. In case of damage, email freeflexshaft@gmail.com with the serial number for instructions. Upon authentication from SJ Golf Lab, the replacement shaft will be provided free of charge (shipping not included). Note that the one-time replacement shaft is not under warranty and cannot be claimed if damaged. Q. CAN I RETURN THE SHAFT IF I DON'T LIKE IT?A. Once the shaft is purchased and is fitted onto a club head, it cannot be returned or refunded. If however, the shaft remains uncut and has not been fitted onto a clubhead or grip in anyway, the shaft can be returned to SJ Golf Lab for a refund and is only applicable for shafts purchased online at official freeflexhsaft.com/. After the shaft is received and passes the inspection for use/damages, the shipping and entry duties/customs tax will be deducted from the original price with the remainer refunded via Paypal. Q.
