FreeFlex CBT & TBT Shaft ReviewBending the Rules of Shafts for Incredible Performance BY Ryan HeimanFounder and head author at Independent Golf Reviews * * * * * * *I fitted the FreeFlex CBT & TBT shafts with Callaway tips for testing in my Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Driver. Between the 2 shafts I played 10 rounds rounds of golf and tested them in the iGR Office by Carl’s Place Golf. FleeFlex creates some of the lightest weight shafts you can buy, that can still hold up to the fastest swing speeds with amazing performance. Theses shafts bend the rules of shafts with new technology and amazing performance. This is the definitive FreeFlex CBT & TBT Shaft Review for 2025. Captionclicc FreeFlex Difference Many golfer do the “waggle” test to figure out how well a shaft will perform for them. This is one of the most useless things that golfers do. It has nothing to do with a shaft will perform with their swing. If you do the waggle test on a FreeFlex shaft you might guess there is no way a swing speed over 75 will be able to control it. However FreeFlex technology allows them to reduce weight down to 38grams/45grams/50grams yet still hold up to very fast swing speed and be incredibly accurate. FreeFlex uses technology to build different shafts that will blow your mind in terms of feel, consistency and overall performance. Plus every shaft comes with a spine alignment for installation. The two newest models the MetaFlex CBT and FreeFlex TBT are proof of their amazing technology in action. Titanium Bending Tec. The FreeFlex TBT 38 Shaft is a engineering marvel. Titanium is everywhere in golf; so why not in the shaft too. FleeFlex added a titanium helix to this driver shaft calling it Titanium Bending Tec. (TBT). This is one of the most flexible shafts you’ll swing, almost noodle like creating tons of lag and a whip like feel. At 38 grams you can really feel the driver head. What will blow you away is how it bends the “traditional” rules of shafts. A soft shaft will go left and a firm shaft will go right. This is the most anti-left shaft I’ve ever hit. If you are struggling with a big draw or fear the left side, this shaft is amazing on the launch monitor and in real life. Perfectly straight to a baby fade was the shot shape every time. Carbon Bending Tec. The MetaFlex CBT 5H Shaft is still lightweight, but at 50grams and a much stiffer flex means it bridges the gap between your traditional feeling shaft and a FreeFlex shaft. It doesn’t feel nearly as soft and doesn’t flex as much so some of the “whip” sensation is less with the MetaFlex. If you can’t get over the extreme feel of a FreeFlex, but want to get the benefits of their technology the MetaFlex CBT is for you. It is aimed for fast swinging golfers and the Carbon Bending Tec. (CBT) means that it will be one of the most consistent shafts off the tee that you can swing for the fences every time. The CBT is also an anti-left shaft for higher swing speed and a more normal feel. Selecting Your Performance The FreeFlex line of shafts offers something different and innovative for a wide range of golfers. It doesn’t matter your swing speed, you can play a FreeFlex shaft. It might take a little re-programming your mind to not worry so much about the new sensation or the light weight, but to watch the results as your swing speed increases. I watched it jump 2mph over the stock shaft. The lightweight shaft allow you to swing harder yet the technology keeps the ball in play. I found the launch and spin in line with lighter the weight the higher the launch and spin. However, that is comparing them to each other. If you go against many stock shafts the FreeFlex shafts will increase launch, but reduce spin. If you are not sure where to start: they have a chart to guide your selection, but I think it also depends on how open minded you are. The TBT can handle 110mph swing speed with now problem. If you aren’t ready for the “whip” then the MetaFlex is the best option. Summary Don’t listen to the myths about golf shafts anymore because FreeFlex technology is bending the rules. The FreeFlex TBT and MetaFlex CBT shafts are proof that a lightweight shaft can be anti-left and still increase launch and speed. I realize that both of these shafts have a hefty price tag of $500 (CBT) and $700 (TBT) but they are unlike anything you’ve ever hit. Why not bend the rules to see different results on the course. These shafts use unique materials and new designs to create unmatched performance.
